His sale, Sotheby's London, 4th November 2010, lot 147, where acquired by the present owner

Condition

The board undulates but otherwise appears sound. The collage elements are torn, creased, cut, adhered and stained, in keeping with the Artist's technique and working methods but all elements appear securely adhered. There are a number of nail heads visible throughout the work in keeping with the Artist's intentions, with one missing in the extreme lower edge towards the left with a resultant nail hole to the work. There are areas where the collaged element is lifting throughout the work, most likely in keeping with the Artist's intentions. There is a spot of loss to a collaged element in the lower left quadrant, with some possible further instances elsewhere. There are some further possible areas of loss in the lower left corner, probably in keeping with the Artist's technique. There is a very light vertical scratch to the work below centre with one or two possible more minor instances elsewhere. There are instances of accretion and studio matter visible throughout, most likely in keeping with the Artist's working methods, with some light surface dirt. The work is held in a simple wooden frame. Please telephone the department on +44 (0) 207 293 6424 if you have any questions regarding the present work.
