The colours are brighter than the catalogue illustration would suggest. The canvas has a firm relining but the paint surface seems to be in good overall condition if a little thin in places. There are no apparent areas of damage or loss of paint however there is a yellowing varnish overall. Inspection under ultraviolet reveals several campaigns of retouching. The older areas are concentrated in the sky upper centre and water lower left, and the more recent areas are concentrated on the right. This includes retouching to what appears to be an area of repaired vertical damage measuring approx.10cm, parallel to the steeple centre right, and an area of retouching lower centre in the horses's foremost flank measuring approx. 4cm. The picture is in good overall condition and is offered in a gold painted plaster and wood frame with minor losses.
