Ligurian School, mid-15th century

The support consists of a single, stable panel with a very slight convex bow. The paint surface is secure under an old, matt, dirty vanish. The gold ground and particularly the halo are much worn. There are some small old restored damages, as visible in the catalogue illustration, to the blue of the Madonna’s robes, which appears to be substantially repainted. This is confirmed under UV light which reveals some other small areas of retouching. Offered in a gilt wood and plaster frame structurally sound if a little rubbed.
