譚行健的畫風,素以筆觸精細、嚴謹寫實著稱。其早年畢業於臺灣師範大學美術系,後赴笈美國,獲得紐約市立大學美術碩士,至2006年,他移居上海,更深入理解東方傳統的美學價值。在《嶙峋》中,譚氏利用自己獨有的風格,發掘古代文人的閑情雅趣。
「竹瘦而壽,石醜而文」是北宋蘇東坡給畫家文同的題畫詞,反映中國文化以有情之心對待萬物的人文精神。《嶙峋》以西方寫實主義的創作手法,把形狀奇詭的太湖賞石,栩栩如真的傳移到畫面之上,背景卻寫意矇矓,輔以蒼竹紅玫與題畫詩,佈局有如國畫,形成特殊的畫風交疊。
中西合璧的繪畫,最早始於清代宮廷畫師郎世寧(Giuseppe Castiglione),他在傳統的紙、絹卷軸上,使用歐洲的光暗處理和透視法繪畫物象,又配合古代中國人的慣性視覺,把色彩對比調校至柔和悅目,背景卻往往留白,或以山水寫意風格襯托。《嶙峋》的藝術手法,與之似有呼應,而譚氏以華人之身調遣油彩,筆下的中華物象,本來即屬於東方的文化元素,這讓他的作品自然流暢,情韻更為濃厚。
