暖光中的狂草線條

《紅宴》屬朱德群60年代的抽象代表作,油彩濃度高是該時期的創作特徵,畫面中硬朗的線條,使藝術家的筆力顯露無遺。在此作中,藝術家利用「光」的元素生成背景,以明亮激烈的紅、橘、黃色塊,襯托位居前方帶有濃厚書法興味的黑色線條。當時,法國藝壇正掀起一股「抒情抽象」(lyrical abstraction)浪潮,而中國書法的草書,正是最著重此寫意的傳統藝術。朱德群適逢其會,正好把東方文化的精粹,自然地融入他該時期的創作。在《紅宴》裡,我們可見飽含草書神采的線條,從粗到細、從實到虛,從直到勾,從聚到散,豪邁飄逸,兼而有之,多元奔放,氣韻風采,呼之欲出,若與唐玄宗《鶺鴒頌》末尾的御押比較,尤其可見古今和應之處。

東方的人文抽象

中國書法在二十世紀西方藝壇曾引起不少震撼,作為東方書寫和繪畫的根本,毛筆的使用方法與西方的碳筆、畫刀和畫筆均大相徑庭,而它所表現的線條美感,看似簡單,實則變化無窮,為百花齊放的現代藝術帶來可塑性極高的嶄新表現工具。不少抽象主義的藝術健將,都曾關注毛筆的使用方法和書法的藝術語言,進而創造出獨樹一幟的作品。然而,西方人面對東方書法,大抵只能欣賞其潑灑之豪邁,或者線條的隨形變化之美,但是對於運用的法度和力量的把握,由於未曾經過經年累月的漢字書寫,始終未如成長於東方的華人,能從感性和理性兩方面,把敏感度鍛煉得精緻細膩,如同呼吸般自然。朱德群生長於儒醫家庭,自幼跟隨父親學習書法和國畫,此後畢生未曾間斷,書法的線條美和墨意,早已深入他的藝術修為,成就他油畫作品的過人美感特色,而他早期以書法線條和立方狀色塊構成的作品,更被稱為「寶石系列」,深受鑒藏者珍愛。而《紅宴》對朱德群的藝術生涯而言,正是承先啟後的重要里程碑。
