Musée De L'Orangerie

About the Museum

This venue, built in 1852 to shelter the groves of the Republic, is renowned for its permanent installation of eight of Claude Monet’s Water Lilies murals in a pair of elegant oval galleries. The site was chosen by the artist himself and is a miraculous success, creating a unique haven of peaceful meditation. Also not without considerable merit is the balance of the collection, which is rich in the works of Impressionist and Post-Impressionist masters from the Jean Walter and Paul Guillaume Collection: Paul Cézanne, Henri Matisse, Amedeo Modigliani, Pablo Picasso, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Henri Rousseau, Alfred Sisley, Chaim Soutine and Maurice Utrillo.
