In this episode of Anatomy Of An Artwork, we see Picasso’s masterpiece Nus Masculins (Les trois âges de l'homme), which will be offered at auction in the Sotheby’s Impressionist and Modern Art sale. The painting depicts three men at different stages of their lives. A young man holding a flute, another in his prime with mask, and an older man lying in a Dionysus-like pose. Painted in 1942 in his Paris studio whilst France was occupied, the painting has the same graphic and chromatic elegance as his anti-war masterpiece, Guernica.
