Lalanne Mirrors Smash Design Auction Records

22 APRIL | NEW YORK

The most important set of mirrors outside of Versailles just shattered auction records at Sotheby's New York. After nearly 10 minutes of bidding, Claude Lalanne's ensemble of mirrors achieved $33.5 million, making it the most valuable work of design ever sold at auction.

This ensemble was commissioned by 1974 by Yves Saint Laurent for the Salon de Musique of his Paris residence. As a highlight of Collection of Jean & Terry de Gunzburg, the mirrors are a defining achievement in the history of the 20th century design.
