How Basquiat Influenced British Rock Band Ride

LONDON | 26 JUNE

Ride guitarist Andy Bell discovered the work of Jean-Michel Basquiat at the Barbican’s ‘Boom For Real’ exhibition in late 2017. In this episode of Expert Voices, Andy and Ride bassist Steve Queralt talk about how Basquiat’s creative methods remind them of their own artistic process. Get a sneak preview of a track from the band’s new album as they explain how Basquiat’s use of symbols inspired song lyrics and led to the album title and art work. ‘This Is Not A Safe Place’, the new album from Ride, is released on 16 August on Wichita Recordings and is available to pre-order now. Ride will be touring their new music, including a show at the Barbican in London in December. Basquiat’s ‘Big Snow’ is a highlight of Sotheby’s upcoming Contemporary Art Evening Auction (26 June | London). Click here to watch more Sotheby’s videos.
