Highlights from the Richard L. Feigen Collection
Collector, Dealer, Connoisseur: The Vision of Richard L. Feigen
Mon–Fri | 9am – 4.30pm
Weekends | 12noon – 5pm
Sotheby’s is honored to present a collection of 55 works from the legendary Old Masters dealer, Richard L. Feigen. A collector since his childhood, Richard became a dealer in the 1960s and eventually had locations in Chicago, New York, and Los Angeles. His early love of German Expressionist painting is represented here by an extraordinary portrait and an important landscape by Max Beckmann. Richard’s lifelong mission to champion under-appreciated and undervalued art led him to focus on Old Masters, especially early Italian works and 18th-19th century British landscapes. Beautiful examples from this first category include a small panel by Lorenzo Monaco, a Domenico Beccafumi with an interesting attribution history, and an intimate Alessandro Allori work on copper. His collection included no fewer than eight works by the tragically short-lived Richard Parkes Bonington, and among our highlights are oil paintings of Venice and Lerici in near-perfect condition. All of these highlights and more are on view in our New Bond Street Galleries at Sotheby’s London from 17 – 23 September, in advance of the live sale in New York, which will take place Monday, 18 October 2021.
