  "Of all the lots in this antiquities sale, it is the Etruscan hare which perhaps most appeals to me. Partly as a curious fragment, and partly by its charming naivety, it immediately seemed a natural partner to this early Moore sketch. Moore’s drawing has wonderful spontaneity, and the varied forms within this work interact so well alongside the hare, the Egyptian alabaster headrest and the Adams sculpture."

  "This is the standout portrait head of the antiquities sale, a brutal beauty of a near circular form. The coupling with Heron’s great painting seemed entirely natural: a simple balance between ancient and modern; two shapes resonating against one another. The addition of the Chadwick’s ‘beast’ is a more direct comment on the nature of his companion sculpture."

  "The largest and the most overtly classical work in the Modern British Sale, Gertler’s painting demanded a larger grouping of work. I chose to combine 4 sculptures: the Venus figure and the great Egyptian mask, alongside Moore’s glorious mother and child, and the brutalist work by Adams. This slightly theatrical setting is how we would place work in the home of a collector, creating a mixed setting that reflects a discerning but broad ranging taste."

  "The stark angularity of Coventry’s painting, and its deep terracotta red implied a natural affinity with this Attic Vase. The Adams sculpture is a direct echo of the forms within the painting, and I love the interaction between this, the Vase, and Turnbull’s explicitly classical form."
