Hello from sunny Florida! On 10-11 March, RM Sotheby’s geared up for its 18th annual sale along the beautiful shores of Amelia Island. As the official auction house of the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance, this esteemed sale presented some of the world’s most desirable automobiles on the oceanfront lawn at the prestigious Ritz-Carlton. This year, the two-day sale kicked off with A Gentleman's Collection: The Pride and Passion of Orin Smith, featuring more than 60 cars, offered largely without reserve.   • 1961 Ferrari 250 GT SWB Berlinetta by Scaglietti. Estimate $9,000,000–10,000,000.
    An outstanding example of one of Ferrari’s most beloved berlinettas, this steel-bodied 1961 model is outfitted as a luxury street version with several competition-style features, including an aluminum hood and deck lid. Beautifully presented, this SWB Ferrari has won numerous accolades, including Best of Show at Concorso Italiano, as well as Platinum Awards at the Ferrari Club of America International and the Cavallino Classic. Highly eligible for events worldwide and complete with the all-important Ferrari Classiche Red Book certification, this stunning GT is one of the most valuable cars ever presented during the Amelia Island auction weekend.

  • 1937 Bugatti Type 57S Cabriolet by Vanvooren. Estimate $8,500,000–10,000,000.
    Rare, elegant, and fast, the Type 57S Cabriolet epitomises exclusive pre-war French design and presents largely unrestored and as it left the factory in 1937.

  • 1971 Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona Berlinetta Competizione Conversion. Estimate $1,250,000–1,500,000.
    Ordered to competition specification but never raced, this Daytona is perfect for vintage racing on a global scale. Fast, nimble and supremely competitive, it is not for the faint of heart – nor the individual who would ever settle for second place. 

  • 2012 Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport. Estimate $1,500,000–1,800,000.
    Built seven decades after the Type 57S Cabriolet, this open Bugatti is just as elegant but features so much more under the hood. The 1,001 brake horsepower W-16 can propel the Veyron Grand Sport and its passengers to a top speed of 229 mph, making it the fastest production convertible ever at the time.

  • 1928 Bentley 4½-Litre Le Mans Sports “The Bobtail” by Vanden Plas. Estimate $6,500,000–7,500,000.
    One of the most original Works Bentleys extant, this “Bobtail” is a two-time Le Mans entrant, including an impressive podium finish in 1929. A rare opportunity to join the ranks of today’s “Bentley Boys” with an almost untouchable car.

  • 1995 Ferrari F50. Estimate $2,200,000–2,400,000.
    With a Formula 1-derived V-12, the F50 is about as close as you can come to a race car for the street. A watershed design when originally produced, they continue to rise in both desirability and notoriety.

  • 1954 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing. Estimate $1,200,000–1,400,000.
    The Mercedes-Benz 300 SL was perhaps the first-ever supercar, combining race technology with road car usability and aerodynamic styling. Decades ahead of its time, the “Gullwing” remains as relevant today as when it was produced in 1954.  

  • 1955 Lancia Aurelia B24S Spider America by Pinin Farina. Estimate $1,400,000–1,800,000.
    By straddling the line between hand-built manufacturing like Ferrari and the rationalised mass-production processes of Fiat, Lancia was able to deliver a car that boasted the best of both worlds. This particular example boasts a Pebble beach-quality restoration, is one of just 181 built and is being offered from over two decades of single ownership.

  • 1956 Maserati A6G/54 Coupe Series III by Frua. Estimate $1,600,000–2,000,000.
    From the 1956 Turin Auto Salon to your garage, this stunning A6G is the sole survivor of the Maserati Series III chassis bodied by Frua. As a testament to its stunning condition and presentation, it was a class winner at the 2014 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegence. Eligible for numerous driving events worldwide, the stylish coachbuilt early coupe should also be warmly welcomed at all major concours d’elegance events globally.

  • 1964 Ferrari 275 GTB by Scaglietti. Estimate $1,800,000–2,000,000.
    With a Platinum Award from Cavallino under its belt and a Ferrari Classiche certification to boot, this is undoubtedly one of the best short-nose 275 GTBs available. 

  • 1950 Ferrari 166 MM Barchetta by Touring. Estimate $8,000,000–10,000,000.
    Ferrari Classiche certified, Pebble Beach Concours quality in every respect, notable competition history, and beyond exceedingly rare. The 166 MM Barchetta checks all the boxes as one of the earliest Ferrari models produced and is THE icon of the brand.
