The collection of fashion star Santiago Barberi Gonzalez reflects the fiercely creative life he lived. Barberi Gonzalez, who founded the luxury accessories brand Nancy Gonzalez with his mother, passed away earlier this year, was a passionate collector who filled his Manhattan residence with a precisely chosen, exceptionally personal collection of contemporary art and design. Selections from his holdings will comprise a single-owner sequence in the Contemporary Curated auction at Sotheby’s this autumn. The sale, entitled Neither Appearance nor Illusion, includes works by John McCracken, Lawrence Weiner, Ed Ruscha, Fernando & Humberto Campana, Antony Gormley and others whose shared themes of displacement, place and time captivated Barberi Gonzalez.
