Space suits, puffer coats and diving gear don't exactly scream "glamour," but the Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology is proving otherwise with Expedition: Fashion from the Extreme. On view at FIT's Manhattan campus through 6 January 2018, the show is the first large-scale exhibition of high fashion influenced by survival garments and extreme environments. With plenty of whimsy and diverse design, Sotheby's Fine Jewels sale in New York offers brooches, bracelets and other pieces that similarly conjure visions of the arctic, Serengeti, deep sea and outer space. Ahead of the auction, click the slideshow to view fourteen pairings of adventure-inspired jewels and fashion by Chanel, Alexander McQueen and more top designers. –Stephanie Sporn
