Maureen Footer’s four years of research for her new book, Dior and His Decorators: Victor Grandpierre, George Geoffroy, and the New Look, culminated in its launch on 16 October at Sotheby’s New York – a celebration, which Footer exclaimed, she had no doubt Christian Dior would have approved of. Enthusiasts from the worlds of fashion and interior design were treated to a panel featuring Footer, fashion historian and author Caroline Rennolds Milbank, Architectural Digest’s Mitch Owens and Sotheby’s Dennis Harrington, who were appropriately seated on Louis XVI fauteuils currently on offer. After the discussion, guests enjoyed a book signing and reception amongst Sotheby’s decorative arts exhibitions, including gilded pieces from the Field collection, of which Footer previously selected her favorite pieces.
