  • Van Cleef & Arpels, A fine white gold and diamond-set rectangular wristwatch with mother-of-pearl dial, Ref HH25410, circa 2012. Estimate $8,000–12,000.
The present lot is one in four total pieces manufactured by Van Cleef & Arpels in a highly limited series. The mother-of-pearl and diamond-set dial illustrates a delicate vision of droplets of water falling from rainforest ferns into a lake. The motion of the droplets rippling into larger circles on the water’s surface is conveyed beautifully here, a feat capable only by the refined atelier.

  • Van Cleef & Arpels, A rare limited-edition white gold diamond and sapphire-set wristwatch with enamel dial, NO 8/22 Poetry In Time Fortuna Faerie, circa 2013. Estimate $40,000–60,000.
The present lot is an exquisite example of artistry in watchmaking, jewelry and dial creation. The work is that of Dominique Baron, an esteemed artist who personally inscribed on the back of the case "With love, Dominique," reflecting her affectionate relationship with the original buyer, as well as the love and dedication with which she approached her work. The micro-mosaic enameled wings of Fortuna Féerie are here delicately rendered in bright, yet translucent, yellows and greens, similar to that of the maison's cherished butterflies, deep and powerful symbols of life, love and luck.

The exquisitely detailed dial seen here perfectly represents Van Cleef & Arpels's belief that the movement of the watch may be the heart, but the dial is the soul. This polar aquatic scene marries the skills of the firm's extremely talented craftsmen, including its jewelers, enamellers and glass sculptors. These artists worked together to create a charming scene of a mother whale and her calf.
