Sotheby’s inaugural sale of Magnificent Jewels and Noble Jewels at the Mandarin Oriental hotel in Geneva last night was headlined by ‘The Apollo and Artemis Diamonds’ which sold for US$57,425,478 / CHF 57,118,750, becoming the most valuable pair of earrings ever sold at auction. There was dynamic bidding on the phone, online and in the room throughout with the sale totalling US$151,546,458 / CHF 150,737,000. Over 90% of the lots offered found buyers with two thirds of them reaching prices in excess of the high estimate.  Multiple world auction records were set including an auction record price for a Fancy Intense Purplish Pink diamond at US$13,245,750 / CHF13,175,000 as well as the record price per-carat for the same stone at $1,881,499.
