A Building-Wide Celebration of Sotheby’s Autumn Sales

Launch Slideshow

On 25 September, Sotheby’s New York welcomed guests to an evening of striking art, bespoke experiences and cocktails served from a “No Buyers Premium” bar. The event began in the 10th-floor galleries with a viewing of highlights from the Contemporary Curated auction, including works from the collection of fashion magnate Santiago Barberi Gonzalez. Sharing memories of Gonzalez was dealer Jeffrey Deitch, who was joined by Sotheby’s David Schrader in a fascinating conversation about collecting. Friends and clients also gathered in The Library by Loro Piana, where Sotheby’s Amy Cappellazzo, Eric Shiner and Harrison Tenzer hosted a VIP reception for The Collection of Edward Albee after which actors performed vignettes from four Albee plays, including Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf, in a one-night-only experience. Also on view in the galleries were highlights from Sotheby’s inaugural sale of Postwar & Contemporary Photographs, the Contemporary Art Online auction and two S|2 selling exhibitions featuring work by Robert Indiana and Robert Graham. Between viewing art, guests enjoyed live music and taking pictures at a GIPHY photo booth inspired by Alexander Calder. Click ahead to see images from the eventful night. –Stephanie Sporn
