T his January 2023, Sotheby’s is thrilled to offer ten complementary sales during New York Masters Week. Headlining the calendar are two single owner sales: Baroque: Masterpieces from the Fisch Davidson Collection and Dutch Masterpieces from the Theiline Scheumann Collection, which offer superb paintings assembled by some of the most discerning collectors of their generation. Alongside these will be The One, a sale offering twenty exceptional and unique objects from throughout history.
A marvelous Bronzino portrait, a recently restituted early masterpiece by the Florentine artist, will headline Master Paintings Part I, which will feature paintings spanning several centuries and encompassing all genres. Among the highlights are exciting rediscoveries by Titian, Anthony van Dyck, Juan van der Hamen y León, and Giandomenico Tiepolo, among others. Also featured are a grand garden landscape by Melchior d’Hondecoeter, a beautifully preserved still life by Gerard van Spaendonck, and a magnificent pastel portrait by Maurice Quentin de La Tour. The sale also offers several works by women artists, including Anne Vallayer-Coster and Marguerite Gerard.
The week is rounded out by Master Works on Paper from Five Centuries, Old Master and British Works on Paper, Bouguereau and His Circle: Then and Now, The European Art Sale Part I, Master Paintings and Sculpture Part II, and The European Art Sale Part II.
