Global art at the tip of southern England
In a Cornish fishing town famed for its light, which became a hub for painters, ceramicists and sculptors in the 19th and 20th centuries, Tate St Ives is an outpost of the Tate group, which includes Tate Modern, Tate Britain and Tate Liverpool. Set on the beach facing the Atlantic, Tate St Ives exhibits modern work, frequently by artists with connections to the area including Barbara Hepworth, Piet Mondrian and Naum Gabo among many others, alongside dynamic international contemporary artists. The museum also manages the nearby Barbara Hepworth Museum and Sculpture Garden. Tate St Ives underwent a major refurbishment and extension between 2015 and 2017 to respond to growing visitor numbers.
