Home to “The Thinker” and other canonical works
This monumental neoclassical museum — a sophisticated example of 1920s elegance that was renovated in 1995 — has a commanding presence in Lincoln Park, overlooking the Golden Gate Bridge. Auguste Rodin’s “The Thinker” is among the collection’s masterpieces, alongside works by El Greco, Peter Paul Rubens, Rembrandt, Claude Monet and Fra Angelico. Sculpture and decorative arts are also on show, as are classical antiquities, contemporary works and a respected temporary exhibition program. With the de Young Museum, the Legion of Honor makes up the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco.
