Highlights from the New York Contemporary Art Evening Auction, American Visionary: The Collection of Mrs. John L. Marion, and Living in Color: The Collection of Morris and Rita Pynoos will be on view in Taipei 3-4 April.
The exhibition includes Jean-Michel Basquiat’s 1982 masterwork Versus Medici, which will be offered at auction for the first time in the Contemporary Art Evening sale in May. Versus Medici is among Basquiat’s most forceful visual challenges to the Western art establishment, in which the young artist boldly crowns himself successor to the artistic throne as established by the masters of the Italian Renaissance. The May sale will also see the auction debut of an extremely rare and desirable Banksy painting, Love is in the Air from 2005, as well as remarkable works by David Hockney and Willem de Kooning from the esteemed collection of Morris and Rita Pynoos.
Sotheby’s is also honored to present masterworks from the Abstract Expressionist and Pop Art movements from the collection of legendary philanthropist and collector Mrs. John L. Marion.
