Pottering Around
Cora Sheibani
Selling Exhibition • 11–21 August 2022 • East Hampton

L ondon based jeweller Cora Sheibani is coming to Sotheby’s East Hampton and presenting her latest collection ‘Pottering Around’ for the first time in the US. Alongside the garden inspired jewels she will be exhibiting previous works ranging from her better known ‘Copper Mould’ Bundt cakes and Ice Cream rings to her colourful ‘Colour & Contradiction’ creations, to name but a few. Known for her use of colour and love of shapes, Cora Sheibani has amassed a following of art lovers and jewelry enthusiasts alike. All her jewels are unique and made exclusively in Europe by goldsmiths of the highest calibre.

Pottering Around is a very British way of describing a state of relaxation in which one spends time doing small jobs that are not very important and having very little to show for it by the end of the day. Cora Sheibani came up with the initial drawings after spending many months in her beloved small garden in London during lockdown. ‘Pottering Around started when I was drawing up some jewellery ideas with plants and realised that pots would be a good addition to the design.’ The concept took hold very quickly and soon Sheibani had a whole collection of ‘Double Pot’ rings and bracelets, ‘Fern’ and ‘Hanging Vine’ earrings, and ‘Italian Pot’ rings made of various combinations of gold, titanium and carved stones. The plant pots take just as much center stage as the plants - one ring in particular is inspired by several terracotta pots stacked together, the rim of each set with custom cut diamonds reminiscent of Renaissance stones: ‘I had custom cut diamonds made for the collection by a cutter in Israel, which was such a pleasure and eye-opening experience. The pot material is Maw Sit Sit Jade: a fluorescent green Jade variety that gives the pot the effect of being moss covered.’

Cora Sheibani was born in 1980 to parents Christina and Bruno Bischofberger, a prominent art dealer from Switzerland. From an early age she benefited from an environment dedicated to modern and contemporary art and design. Sheibani received an Art History degree from NYU in 2001, and completed her gemmological degree from the GIA in 2002 at which point she launched her eponymous jewelry label.

Aside from showing her designs at private viewings by appointment, Cora Sheibani has had jewelry exhibitions in many cities including London, Zurich, Geneva, Basel, St. Moritz, Paris, Copenhagen, Milan and New York. She now works from a private showroom in London’s Mayfair.
