S otheby’s is delighted to present the Modern & Contemporary Discoveries auction, taking place in Cologne. The sale combines exciting discoveries from the categories of modern & contemporary art, prints & multiples, photography and 20th century design.
The auction opens with the outstanding group Luminous Waves of Colour: Property from a Prominent Private Dutch Collection, including works such as a large-scale painting by female artist Katharina Grosse, two dynamic abstract works by the Swiss artist Pia Fries and expressive vibrant paintings by Markus Oehlen.
Featuring locally renowned and international artists, the auction includes contemporary highlights such as an outstanding sculpture by German conceptual artist Rosemarie Trockel and a monumental painting by Cologne-based artist Andreas Schulze as well as magnificent modern art works by Die Brücke artists Emil Nolde and Erich Heckel.
Furthermore, the auction is complemented by works from the Krefeld born artist Herbert Zangs, popular multiples from Günther Uecker, Gerhard Richter, Dieter Roth to Christo and Marlene Dumas, design pieces by Yves Klein and Mario Bellini as well as large scale sculptural photographs by italian artist Giuseppe Gabellone.
