B orn and raised in Montego Bay, Jamaica, Matthew Harris, creator of Mateo New York, discovered his true passion for jewelry design from an early age. A self-taught designer, he honed his skills learning from the best jewelry masters while perfecting his vision of blending metal with precious gems in an elevated direction. Drawing inspiration from modern art, he embodies the principles of simplicity and minimalism in creating jewelry for the modern man and woman, with works regularly featured in renowned publications such as American Vogue, Vogue Paris, W Magazine, the New York Times and WWD. In 2016 and 2017 Mateo’s designs were featured at the Smithsonian Museum, African American Museum of Art and Culture in Washington D.C, and the Smithsonian Hirshhorn Museum of Contemporary Art.
