Marilyn Monroe:
The Last Sitting® | Photographs by Bert Stern
Selling Exhibition • 19 April – 16 June 2024 • Palm Beach

I n June 1962, Marilyn Monroe posed for Bert Stern, who had been commissioned to photograph the superstar for VOGUE magazine, at the Hotel Bel-Air in Los Angeles. Monroe died only a few months afterward, on August 4, and the shoot would become known as ‘The Last Sitting.' Of the innumerable photographs taken during Monroe's short life, Stern’s emerge as clear standouts for his ability to capture Monroe's playful nature, charisma, and vulnerability. When Monroe's death was announced, VOGUE immediately re-designed the upcoming September 1962 issue to commemorate her life, and Stern's photographs opened the feature in the magazine.
