S otheby’s is pleased to present the first Impressionist & Modern Art of the summer, open for bidding online from Monday, June 7th, until Wednesday, June 16th. We are delighted to offer works from several distinguished private collections, both domestic and international, including pieces from the esteemed collection of Morris and Rita Pynoos and the Estate of Paul & Marianne Steiner. The sale also includes a series of accessible works on paper offered without reserve by dynamic artists of the twentieth and twenty first centuries. Excellent examples of the School of Paris by Jean Dufy, Moïse Kisling, and Louis Valtat are complimented by an exciting bronzes by Lynn Chadwick, Salvador Dali, and Alicia Penalba.

Pierre-Auguste Renoir's 'Étude pour les grandes baigneuses'
Acquired first directly from the artist, during his lifetime, by the prominent art dealer Ambroise Vollard, this pastel was executed as a study for Renoir’s 1887 masterpiece Les Grandes Baigneuses. The subject is Suzanne Valadon—the painter and mother of Maurice Utrillo. Les Grandes Baigneuses currently hangs in the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
