S otheby’s is pleased to present – as the third lot in From the Archive Week – an online auction celebrating the 35th Anniversary of Back to the Future (1985), of Nike MAGs (2011 edition) dual signed by Michael J. Fox. Please note, the lot is offered without reserve.
Upon its release on July 3 1985, Back to the Future became an instant classic, and is still to this day revered as one of the most iconic films in American culture. The film directed by Robert Zemeckis features Michael J. Fox as the iconic Marty McFly who time travels from 1985 to 1955 where he meets his future parents, using a modified DeLorean created by his friend and scientist “Doc” Brown.

In the 1989 sequel, Back to the Future Part II, Marty time travels to the year 2015, and famously turns on his Nike MAGs featuring ‘power laces’, that self-tie. That moment, and later scenes in the movie, became iconic in the history of footwear inspiring multiple releases by Nike, including the Nike MAG (2011), Nike MAG (2016) and the Nike Adapt Mag (2019), among others.
In 2011, Nike released a promotional video to go alongside the release of 1500 pairs of the 2011 Nike MAG to benefit the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.
This pair however, autographed by Michael J. Fox himself, is exceptionally rare.
Sotheby’s is pleased to offer this remarkable pair, at no reserve, and honor the incredible legacy of the Back to the Future franchise, and of course, Nike.
