Explore Highlights from the Auction

Eddie Martinez
Executed in his deeply personal, inimitable visual language, Yellow Belly offers a superb example of the playful sense of spontaneity that lies at the heart of Eddie Martinez’s practice. A kinetic, almost electric energy, reverberates from a slickly defined central sphere, which appears to bounce across the canvas in a blur of the artist’s favoured eclectic palette of crimson reds, electric blues and tangerine oranges.

Genieve Figgis
Executed in 2013, Lady in a Pink Dress testifies to the surreal and macabre tone at the heart of the artist’s practice. The present work offers a dreamlike vision singing with ambiguity and denying any specificities. Figgis champions the bizarre with her highly distinctive and idiosyncratic visual language, skillfully renegotiating the conventions of the depiction of women in figurative art in a decidedly humorous tone.

Captivating Works on Paper

This season’s Contemporary Art | London auction offers a fantastic selection of quality works on paper, not only from key emerging talents but also from some of the most sought after established artists. Throughout art history, works on paper have offered a terrific insight into artists’ working processes. Time and time again we have seen the giants of art history produce wonderfully esoteric and insightful works on paper as a key cornerstone of their practice. From Tracey Emins monotype, to Brice Marden’s ink on paper and Paulina Olowska’s collage, each work offers a unique and unrivaled sense of intimacy and showcases the experimental practices that lie at the heart of these artists' oeuvres.

Pioneering Women Artists

There is a strong presence of works by trailblazing female artists in this season’s Contemporary Art | London Auction. Recent years have seen a much needed reckoning with previously undervalued importance of women artists. From Cecily Brown’s sensual and wonderfully tactile monotype, to Jenny Holzer’s radical and uncompromising text work and Makiko Kudo’s monumental whimsical canvas, these works testify to the diversity in practices of women artists and the enduring importance of their works.
