Description

Michel-Bruno Bellengé

Rouen 1726 - 1793

Still Life with a Peach

Oil on canvas

12,8 x 17 cm ; 5 by 6¾ in.

We are grateful to Mrs Claudia Salvi for having confirmed the authenticity of the work after first-hand inspection.

This charming small still life, meticulously executed, is the work of Michel-Bruno Bellengé, whose paintings of still lifes and flowers were among the most exquisite of his time. Born and trained in Rouen, Bellengé was approved by the Académie Royale de Peinture et de Sculpture in 1762 and accepted in 1764, with support from Chardin, who admired his work.

He exhibited regularly at the Salon, and was also director of the Tapis de Chaillot manufactory, as well as drawing models for the Savonnerie.
