Description
Scotty Cameron Steel Putter, Polymer Grip
1999
Scotty Cameron Putter Studio,
Private Collection
In 1999, Tiger Woods introduced the Scotty Cameron Newport 2 into his bag. He would go on to win 14 of his 15 major championships with it over the course of his career, making it one of the most celebrated partnerships between athlete and equipment in the history of sport.
The present lot is a Newport II Tour in Pro Platinum, built to Woods' exact specifications and certified by the Scotty Cameron Putter Studio. Registry number A-074458 confirms all attributes authentic, with the specification note reading: "Made for Tiger Woods Tour Newport II in Pro Platinum with 5 degrees of loft."
The lot is further accompanied by an original Letter of Authenticity signed by Scotty Cameron himself, dated June 26, 1999, on Titleist and Foot-Joy Worldwide letterhead. The letter confirms: "This NP Two putter was made for Tiger Woods in 1999 for use on tour. The loft is 5 degrees and it is stamped in the cavity. On the toe is his name Tiger. The putter has a Platinum finish." Issued from Cameron's Escondido studio at the moment of creation, by the maker himself.
Going Deeper | Tiger Woods
Born on December 30, 1975, Tiger Woods is widely regarded as the most dominant golfer of his generation and one of the greatest athletes in the history of sport. His 15 major championships place him second on the all-time list behind Jack Nicklaus, who won 18. On the PGA Tour, Woods has accumulated 82 victories, a figure that ties Sam Snead's longstanding all-time record rather than surpassing it outright.
His 15 major victories break down as follows: five Masters Tournaments, four PGA Championships, three U.S. Open Championships, and three Open Championships.
