A PHOTOGRAPHIC ARCHIVE OF THE FIRST AND LAST CREWED APOLLO FLIGHTS

Just under one hundred images in the present lot illustrate the incredible milestones achieved by Apollo 7, Apollo 8, 15, 16, and 17.

Apollo 7 was the first crewed flight of the Apollo program. Commander Walter M. Schirra, Command Module Pilot Donn F. Eisele, and Lunar Module Pilot R. Walter Cunningham tested the newly redesigned Command and Service Modules in space after the Apollo 1 tragedy.

Apollo 8 was humanity's first journey to the Moon, crewed by Frank Borman, William Anders, and Jim Lovell. A striking Earthrise from this mission is included in the lot.

Apollo 15 was the fourth landing on the Moon, and the first with the iconic lunar rover or "Moon Buggy." The Moon Buggy grew more advanced each mission, ensuring Apollo 16 and 17 covered astonishing ground with each crewed landing to the Moon.

Apollo 17 was the last of the Apollo missions and the last time humans walked on the Moon. This archive features photographs from that mission and fittingly ends with the recovery of Apollo 17's crew Commander Gene Cernan, Lunar Module Pilot Harrison Schmitt, and Command Module Pilot Ronald E. Evans from the Pacific after they splashed down in their capsule America.
