Description

[Apollo 17]

LMP Harrison Schmitt next to the United States Flag.

Large color photograph, measuring 16 x 20 inches. SIGNED and INSCRIBED by LMP HARRISON SCHMITT in SILVER ink: "Harrison H. Schmitt / Apollo 17 LMP."

LMP Harrison Schmitt stands next to the deployed United States flag during an EVA at the Taurus-Littrow landing site. In this remarkable photograph taken by Commander Gene Cernan, the top of the flag seems to point toward Earth.

Trained as a geologist, Schmitt was the first and only professional scientist to walk on the Moon. Apollo 17 was the last of the Apollo missions, making Harrison Schmitt and Gene Cernan the last Moonwalkers.
