Directly from the Personal Collection of Apollo 11 Lunar Module Pilot Buzz Aldrin

AN APOLLO 11 FLOWN NEW JERSEY STATE FLAG

It was not uncommon for American astronauts to fly state flags for friends or family, or for locations that had personal significance to the astronauts. Buzz Aldrin was born and raised in New Jersey prior to attending the US Military Academy at West Point.

Buzz Aldrin's accompanying provenance letter reads:

"This provenance letter certifies that the accompanying Apollo 11 New Jersey State Flag was flown to the Moon aboard the command module Columbia.

In July of 1969, I landed on the Moon as part of the Apollo 11 crew. To help commemorate this historic milestone, I chose to personally carry this 4 by 6 inch New Jersey State Flag with me in my Personal Preference Kit (PPK)."
