Oval, with gadroon rims and lion paw and rosette handles, engraved with arms, crests and coronets,

The arms on the covers are those of King with Byron in pretence for William, lst Earl of Lovelace (1805-93 who married Augusta Ada, only daughter of the poet Lord Byron on 8 July 1835. The title of Lovelace was chosen in consequence of his wife Is relationship through her mother to the Barons Lovelace of Hurley, a barony which became extinct on the death of the sixth baron in 1736. John Lovelace, 4th Baron Lovelace was Governor of New York in 1708-09 as his grandfather, the Hon Francis Lovelace had been from 1668 to 1673.
