This rhyolite slab, mined from the Chinle Formation in Southern Utah, presents an abstract, almost painterly tableau formed by the natural accumulation of silica-rich volcanic rock over 200 million years ago. The slab displays swirling bands of red, yellow, and blue-gray formed by the successive deposition of minerals in a large, ancient river system.
