Chondrite – H5

Plainview, Hale County, Texas, USA (34° 7'N, 101° 47'W)

100 x 77 x 55 mm (3⅞ x 3 x 2⅛ inches). 652 grams (1.44 lb).

Formerly in the collection of Harvey Nininger (1887-1986), the "Father of Meteoritics."

A HISTORIC AMERICAN METEORITE WITH NININGER PROVENANCE

Plainview (1917) is one of the largest meteorites finds ever made in the United States, with over 1,500 pounds of material currently known. However, the current offering represents a particularly desirable piece of Plainview as it is a complete stone with Nininger provenance including the original Nininger catalog number, "92 vv," painted on its side. In addition to this illustrious provenance, this stone features beautifully red terrestrial weathering crust from the time it spent undisturbed in the north Texas desert, where it likely resided for thousands of years until being found in the early 20th century.
