The Rolex 6239, introduced in 1963, was the first official reference in the iconic ‘Daytona’ collection, and was marketed towards racing enthusiasts. It was the first Rolex chronograph to feature a tachometer scale on the bezel, moving it from the dial for better legibility, and most notably, the first to feature the contrast color subdials. At its heart beats the calibre Valjoux 72B, a modified version of the Valjoux 72 with a frequency of 18000 vph and a 48 hour power-reserve.
Fitted on a folded link Oyster bracelet, our present Reference 6239 further features a dial where the print of the ‘Daytona’ is smaller than the Rolex and Cosmograph above it, lovingly coined the ‘Small’ Daytona by collectors.
