The reference 3428 was introduced by Patek Philippe in 1960 as the successor to the classic Patek Philippe reference 2526. The preceding ref. 2526 holds an important place in the brand’s history, as it was the manufacturer’s first serially produced automatic wristwatch.
What distinguishes the two models is that the ref. 3428 is fitted with the improved cal. 27-460 movement, featuring a thinner rotor. Despite this technical upgrade, the ref. 3428 retains much of the design DNA of its predecessor, both in its proportions and its classic enamel dial.
The present model is particularly collectible, as it was produced for only five years and in far smaller quantities than its forerunner. It is estimated that around 600 examples were made across all metals, with only approximately 20 yellow gold pieces having appeared on the market.
The present watch is extremely well preserved, retaining its original Patek Philippe crown, while the enamel dial remains intact and displays a lovely off-white tone.
