Affectionately dubbed "ovetti" (little eggs) by Italian collectors, the Bubbleback earned its name from its deeply domed caseback. Rolex engineered this protruding design to house its early, bulky automatic winding rotors without altering the watch's elegant proportions. Framed by an understated flat bezel, delivering a punchy visual weight that completely defies its small diameter.
What elevates this Reference 2764 from a rare vintage find to a museum-grade treasure is its double signature. The dial bears the mark of Serpico y Laino, the legendary luxury retailer based in Caracas, Venezuela. Co-signed Rolexes from the mid-20th century are incredibly scarce. They tell a story of a globalizing luxury market and elite regional tastes. Finding an example today where the early Rolex coronet and the retailer’s stamps remain as crisp and perfect as they were eight decades ago is exceptionally rare and command a massive premium among vintage watch collectors.
