Introduced in 1941, the Ref. 1579 is among the most charismatic and distinctive designed chronographs ever produced by Patek Philippe, or any brand. With its dramatic lugs, large round case, and beautifully balanced dial layout, the reference perfectly captures the elegant and confident aesthetic of the 1940s while remaining unmistakably Patek Philippe in execution and refinement.

Produced in very limited numbers predominantly in yellow and pink gold, with only a handful known to exist in stainless steel and platinum, the Ref. 1579 was powered by the legendary manually wound calibre 13-130 based on the Valjoux 13’’’ movement, finished to the exceptional standards expected of Patek Philippe during the period. The reference’s sharply sculpted “spider” lugs case, made by Wenger (Key 1) remains among the most celebrated case designs of the vintage era and distinguish the model from all contemporaneous chronographs produced by the brand.

Production was divided into 2 series, with the first series featuring applied Arabic gold 12 and 6 complimented by enamel baton indexes and gold Feuille hands, whilst the second series feature applied Arabic gold 12 and 6 accompanied by applied gold square dots.

Today, the Ref. 1579 is widely regarded as one of the great vintage Patek Philippe chronographs combining rarity, technical significance, and daring design in a manner few references can rival.
