F.P. Journe, whose timepieces are deeply rooted in the traditions of 18th‑century watchmaking, surprised the horological world in 2011 with the introduction of his “Sport” collection. Made from ultra‑lightweight metal cases and featuring bolder, sportier dial designs and color palettes, the series marked a distinct departure from the brand’s classical aesthetic. According to Journe, the collection was inspired by a collector seeking an ultra‑light sports watch powered by a true high‑horology movement.

The watch’s red accents, large luminous Arabic numerals, power‑reserve indication, oversized date window, and day/night display give it a distinctly dynamic presence. Beyond its visual impact, technical innovation defines the piece: the case is constructed from ultra‑light titanium, while the movement itself is made from aluminum alloys developed exclusively for the Linesport collection. Rubber inlays integrated into the titanium bracelet, case sides, and crown provide enhanced shock protection, while the folding clasp is also rubber coated.

The earliest versions of these models were produced in aluminum between 2011 and 2014. They later transitioned to titanium, as seen in the present lot, offering enhanced durability, improved scratch resistance, and superior long‑term preservation compared to the earlier, more delicate aluminum examples. The transition to titanium resulted in a darker case tone than the earlier aluminum examples, creating a more harmonious look with the dial color.
