Launched in 2014 to commemorate the opening of the tenth Montres Journe boutique, located in Beirut, Lebanon, F.P. Journe released a limited‑edition version of the Chronomètre Bleu known as the Byblos. This special edition was produced in a run of just 99 pieces and was available exclusively through Journe boutiques.
The name Byblos derives from the ancient coastal city just north of Beirut, widely regarded as the oldest continuously inhabited city in the world and believed to have been first settled approximately 10,000 years ago.
Aside from the dial, the watch is almost identical to the standard Chronomètre Bleu. While both models feature blue dials, the Byblos distinguishes itself the central portion of the dial cut away to reveal the rose‑gold movement beneath. The dial is meant to evoke the sun of the Orient set against a Mediterranean blue sky.
The F.P. Journe signature is engraved directly onto the movement, with the letter “J” rendered in the Phoenician alphabet. Additionally, the customary 'Invenit et Fecit' inscription is omitted from the dial and replaced by the name Byblos in its usual position.
By retaining the outer portion of the dial while skeletonizing the center, the design strikes a perfect balance, offering a captivating view of the movement while still maintaining excellent legibility for everyday time reading. The present lot offers an excellent opportunity for collectors to acquire a highly sought‑after and rare example in today’s market.
