Introduced in 1964, the reference 3514 by Patek Philippe was produced for a brief period until 1971. Slightly smaller than the reference 3445 at 33.8 mm, it earned the affectionate nickname “small mono-date” among collectors.
Predominantly crafted in yellow gold, the model was also produced in platinum as well as in pink and white gold, such as the present example. With only around 16 pieces identified on the market, it remains exceptionally rare, and notably, this appears to be the first known example with a “telephone dial” to have surfaced in recent years.
Powered by the automatic calibre 27-460 M, with “M” denoting mono-date, the reference 3514 was only the second Patek Philippe model to feature this celebrated movement. Its two-piece waterproof case was manufactured by Antoine Gerlach, as confirmed by the key hallmark with number 4 inside the caseback.
The dial, produced by Stern Frères, is particularly remarkable, featuring Breguet numerals, an uncommon configuration as most examples were fitted with baton or Roman indexes. The finely preserved outer pearled minute track further enhances the appeal of this rare and highly collectible timepiece.
