Dial: silvered dial signed Cartier, applied white gold Breguet numerals, inner chemin-de-fer minute track, gilded Breguet hands

Calibre: 9½’’’ circular LeCoultre calibre movement signed European Watch and Clock Cie Inc., damascened Côtes de Genève decoration, lever escapement, 15 jewels, bi-metallic compensation balance with timing and poising screws, adjusted to temperature and two positions, Breguet hairspring

Movement number: backplate numbered 432'976

Case: 18k yellow gold square watch case, beaded winding crown

Case number: case back exterior with French eagle’s head assay mark and hand stamped 24'360, inside case back hand stamped 24'360 and signed European Watch and Clock Co Inc, France, mounted within 14k gold money clip signed to reverse of frame Cartier 14k

Size: 40 mm length x 53 mm width

Accessories: Cartier green leather original presentation case and travelling pouch

A similar Cartier money clip, though with a slightly differently shaped framework, was sold at Antiquorum New York in 2012. That money clip also featured an 18k gold watch case with a 14k gold money clip frame, signed “Cartier” on its back edge. The Antiquorum example included what appears to be a New York stock number. Based on the style of the Cartier signature and the 14k stamp on the back of the frame in both that example and the present piece—along with the presence of French assay marks on the watch cases—it seems likely that these watches and their movement casings were supplied by Cartier Paris to Cartier New York. The latter then completed the pieces as money clips, adapting them to their own designs in the US.
