Cartier produced money clips during the 1930s, some of which featured a watch combined with a compass. Research suggests that most of the money clips from this earlier period were produced by Cartier New York and finished locally in the United States, whereas the framework and casing of the present piece were crafted entirely by Cartier Paris.
