The design of these cufflinks is captured in Cartier’s original patent drawings, filed in 1933 under patent number 763'655. The innovative design consists of two circular rings connected by an angled shank featuring a cross-bar motif. For practicality and ease of use, the lower ring incorporates a hinged semi-circular swivel bar, ensuring a secure fit. One cufflink is fitted with a discreet watch, powered by a rear-wound LeCoultre calibre movement. This watch’s winding crown is concealed to the back of the case, preserving the sleek and elegant aesthetic of the design. A Country Life advertisement dated 3 December 1959 featured an illustration of a similarly designed pair of Cartier cufflinks, underscoring their enduring appeal. Adding to their allure, the legendary actor Cary Grant was photographed wearing a similar pair, further cementing their status as a symbol of refined elegance and sophistication.
