Vintage examples of the Baignoire in white gold are extremely rare. A gentleman’s version of the model (23mm x 31mm), also in white gold, was owned by Brian Epstein and later sold at Sotheby’s. Epstein’s watch was also a London model and had hallmarks for 1966-67 together with case reference 7808 and London Subsidiary Stock No. • 10269 •. One of the most famous band managers in history, Brian Epstein managed the Beatles from 1961-1967. Information provided by the Epstein family at the time of his watch’s sale at Sotheby’s, noted that Epstein had apparently purchased a similar watch for George Harrison, as well as a similar piece for his mother Queenie.
Sotheby’s London, The Beatles, 1 October 2020, lot 41. A very similar example of the Baignoire, also in white gold, but in the gentleman’s size (23 x 31mm). Originally the property of Brian Epstein, the watch had case reference number 7808, London Subsidiary Stock No. • 10801 • and original white gold deployant buckle numbered 1080.
Sotheby’s Paris, The Collection of Dame Shirley Bassey, 10 October 2024. A very similar white gold Baignoire in a slightly larger size, with case reference 7758 and London subsidiary stock number • 10219 •. The watch was from the Collection of Dame Shirley Bassey CH, DBE, it was catalogued as having British hallmarks but the year of production was not mentioned.
