Dial: silvered dial signed Cartier, triangular polished gilded hour indexes, hand stamped 12 to dial edge beneath bezel, dauphine hands, dial secured to inner case by 3 screws

Calibre: 8’’’ circular calibre 168 movement signed European Watch and Clock Co. Inc., damascened Côtes de Genève decoration, lever escapement, 18 jewels, annular balance with poising screws, adjusted to temperatures and two positions, flat hairspring, U.S. import code EXU

This gold purse watch is accentuated by a basketweave engine turned decoration. The inner case slides out from the outer case and hinges to an angled position. When opened in this way, the watch is perfectly positioned for easy viewing on a desk or bedside table. The design of this purse watch draws inspiration from a style first popularised during the late 1920s and 1930s. During that time, wristwatches led the charge in creativity, yet purse watches emerged as a striking and sophisticated alternative.
