The Tortue was the third ever watch to be released by the French Maison and its distinct shape was made to resemble a turtle and historically became Cartier’s first ever chronograph in 1928, a significant milestone for the brand.

The present lot was part of the now coveted Collection Privée Cartier Paris, a commemorative collection to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the brand's founding. Cased in 18k white gold, it is adorned with the ‘Paris’ on the 6 o’clock of the dial, a characteristic no longer present in Cartier’s modern catalog. Importantly, the monopusher calibre 045 MC was designed and made by F.P. Journe, Dennis Flageollet and Vianney Halter.
